Introduction
My body trembles at the vast expanse of wisdom that has always surrounded me since time immemorial. Knowing nothing but ignorance throughout my countless lives swimming and struggling through the endless ocean of samsara, I have finally found a chance of realization with this very moment as I write. I am deeply humbled and forever grateful for the mercy of all those who have gone beyond, and who are within this very space that I occupy. They say there are countless buddhafields within one atom, more than the sands on every beach of this planet. How can I feel alone and scared when I am being held by pure wisdom and compassion.
The Four thoughts that lead the mind to Dharma
1. The Precious Human Birth
One may read this concept and be like "Oh okay now I know". But one needs to meditate to truly appreciate what we all have at this very moment, and how vital it is not to waste it. According to the Nyingma tradition acquiring a Human rebirth is more rare than a turtle resurfacing every 100 years, and going through a circle goal similar to a basketball going through a hoop. Some people waste this life on material things such as money, career, sex, drugs, and pointless endeavours that leave no merit for the next life.
2. Impermanence
In every moment things are changing, if you look at everyone in this world today, fast forward to one hundred years from now, most likely everyone you see will be dead by that time. This thought isn't meant to make one a cynic, but rather to lead one to strive for things that can carry on to the next life, or even to go beyond rebirth.
3. Karma
Have you ever wondered what you did to deserve such a thing, rather than moaning and groaning about it, be thankful for it. As long as your alive and well, you pretty much served a light load compared to what you deserve. Did you hit your foot on the bedpost? You most likely cut off someones foot in a past life, and that was the debt you owed. Remember we have countless lives, impossible to count, in one of those lives we did pretty evil things. We should be equanimous to any situation that we define as either good or bad. Neither too excited when things go well nor depressed when nothing is going our way.
4. The Defects of Samsara
Are you attached to the new car you bought?Your girlfriend? boyfriend? PS4? Career?
I don't want to be a debbie downer but all those things will be gone sooner or later, and thats a fact. After they are gone what else can you rely on? When the heart is use to having something, and all of a sudden loses it, it experiences suffering. The only thing worth striving for in this life is the Dharma. The mind is the only thing that continues on after this life, it is like water in a cup. If you pour the water into a teapot it takes the form of the teapot, if you place water into a bottle it becomes the bottle, well I'm not saying to become water like Bruce Lee, rather I'm saying that your mind changes bodies after death.
